MANAGER'S REPORT

Welcome everyone to Semester 1 2010. There are so many exciting things happening at Banksia Gardens and we look forward to sharing many of these with you.

Stage 1 of the redevelopment of the building is nearing completion. You will notice our new environmental colours and newly renovated office space, kitchen and toilets. The archiects have been engaged to to commence on Stages 2 and 3, which includes many more environmental features as well as a new classroom. It is expected that these works will be completed by the end of 2010. I would like to thank the Department of Human Services, the Department of Planning and Community Development, the Department of Sustainability and Environment and the Federal Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations who provided the funds for these building improvements.

I would like to welcome the following new staff to our team. Nick Mac Hale is our new Community Connections Project Manager who will be working predominantly with the residents of the Banksia Gardens estate. Fusun Gumus who is the Acting Playgroup Development Coordinator until Linda Franco returns. Joanna Nevill returns to work with a new Human Rights project in schools as well as joining the Homework Project team. We also welcome back Nihal who will be running playgroup 5 days a week at Banksia Gardens.

You have probably noticed that Samantha will be leaving us for a short time to have her baby. We wish her all the very best on her new journey with her husband Jason on becoming parents. Natasha will be taking over during this time.

Since January 2010 Liz, Ashley, Jim and Trevor from Boston University have been working with Jaime developing and researching possible environmental programs. This is part of their Masters study and will form part of our Edu/Eco Project for the Eco Warriors Project. It has been wonderful having the students involved.

Welcome to Paul Bentley who has recently joined the Banksia Gardens Community Centre Board of Management. Paul is Manager of the Broadmeadows Office of Housing and we warmly welcome his enthusiasm.

Please come in and say hello to our Centre's staff who all look forward to seeing you.

Regards to all,

Gina Dougall - Manager
