MANAGER'S REPORT

Welcome to Term 2 at Banksia Gardens Community Centre. We have had a very busy start to 2009 with many great prospects to come this term. We hope to see changes to the Centre in the coming months as the Redevelopment Project commences...what an exciting time it will be. Jaime and I made a presentation to the Hume City Council for financial support of $200,000 towards the building of an iconic environmentally sustainable classroom. We hope to hear an announcement soon.

Once again we have a run a very successful School Holiday Program with more than forty young people involved in activities such as visiting CERES in Brunswick, movie nights, cooking, workshops and much more. The Youth Connections Homework Study Group is now running three days per week with the support of our fantastic volunteer tutors and is well received in the community with many new young people attending. Also on the youth front, the Stop Motion Animation Program has produced a wonderful series of environmental animations that can be view on our blog.

I am proud to report that all of our Computer classes are completely full this term and we are looking at offering more classes to meet the high demand. We are currently running the Certificate III in Children's Services course and the Diploma of Children's Services course in partnership with Victoria University at Banksia Gardens with 37 students enrolled. We wish them luck with their studies.

Welcome to the Hume Baptist Church who will be based at the Centre on Sunday mornings. Banksia Gardens has joined forces with The Big Issue to run a Street Soccer Program based at the Centre for our local youth. This has been well received with many young people involved.

On Wednesday 11th March we held a huge International Women's Day event at Banksia Gardens with over 380 people in attendance. Thank you to Joanne Bliss for event managing the day. I attended the ANHLC Conference in the city in March which focussed on environmental sustainability. Closer to home, the Banksia Gardens Board of Management is currently working through the Centre's policy and procedures manual which will be of great benefit to Banksia Gardens Community Centre.

Here's to another wonderfully exciting term that I hope everyone enjoys.

Kindest regards,

Gina Dougall Centre Manager
